Paper launch or not? Nvidia RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs sell out instantly, frustrating customers

There is alot of interest as Nvidia has stopped producing 4080 and 4090.
People that skipped the 40’series will buy the 50 series, even though performance may only be 12-14% faster on the 5080 series
there might be *some* who do, but I think most of these cards are going to be sold in prebuilt machines, not to consumers. I think nVidia is going to create an artificial GPU shortage to create FOMO since the 50 series doesn't really offer anything.

Product sell outs happen. It happens any time there is a product with a certain level of popularity. It is not a new thing. Why are people surprised by this?

Thats totally me, but sadly I wont buy a card thats weaker than the last gen card. 5080 cant give me next gen FPS, AKA faster than 4090.. im out. Ill be back for RTX 6080. If they want my money, im here and ready for it. They dont offer me a good product. 2K for a card is a no go for obvious reasons. Its stupid.

Totally understandable - we might have to wait until 2027 before we see a new generation, but we’ll most likely see a 5080 Super next year.
Just a sidenote - the 5080 clocks «really» well - so you can push that card at least 5-10% on the clocks without any stability issues - of course you’ll prefer not to have to do this in order to get real next gen performance..but least it’s shown to be doable

Scalpers are buying them up, as pointed out in the article.
If scalpers are buying them, then the demand for the product is extremely high. Because those scalpers are selling them on for even higher prices. It will make Nvidia think they priced their products too low.

It's a paper launch. There's no way to determine how high demand for a product is when a store is given 4 cards.

Other than every retail outlet selling out their entire stock on a single day? No, no way at all...

BTW, while it's not a huge launch, there is a reasonable amount of stock. My local BestBuy had about 40 of them for each model and they sold out before lunchtime.

I think its pretty safe to say that its popular and will certainly sell enough to justify its high pricing.

If im wrong, Nvidia will cut prices.
